RE: Thursday September 15, 2011 UAPC Meeting – 350 BASCOM HALL, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.

1.Welcome and introductions.

2. Automatic Consent – Minutes of the June 20, 2011 meeting. UAPC Doc 2011.09.15.01

3. Automatic Consent – Discontinuation of the Subject Listing: Neurophysiology. This subject listing (Timetable department) is a remnant from the Department of Neurophysiology prior to the merger with the Department of Physiology in 1998. There are no courses associated with the subject and this action provides a formal record to remove it from the official lists. UAPC Doc 2011.09.15.02

4. Approval Item – Center for Health Enhancement Systems Studies (CHESS), Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, College of Engineering. Presenter: Vicki Bier, professor and chair of Industrial and Systems Engineering. We discussed this item at the May UAPC meeting (see meeting minutes). At that time there was no letter from CALS, which is now provided in your packet. UAPC Doc 2011.09.15.03, UAPC Doc 2011.09.15.04

5. Approval Item – Institute for Global Health. This proposal is a request to rename and reorganize the Center for Global Health. Presenter: Jonathan Patz, professor of Environmental Studies. UAPC Doc 2011.09.15.05

6. Discussion – Program Review Report. Jocelyn Milner, director of Academic Planning and Analysis, has prepared the attached program review report for discussion. UAPC Doc 2011.09.15.06

7. Discussion – State Authorization for Distance Education. All universities are required to comply with requirements for distance education that are established in other states and UW-Madison, like most other universities, recently learned that we were out of compliance with the requirements of many states. We have a team working on these compliance issues. As a basis for discussion, I’m providing a report that describes what colleges and universities across the country are doing to comply with these regulations. I’m also attaching the memo that went to deans to advise them on this issue. UAPC Doc 2011.09.15.07, UAPC Doc 2011.09.15.08

8. Information Item – Formal options for existing distance education programs. Several formal named options have been established associated with previously approved distance education programs. These options will allow us to systematically identify students in distance education programs, a necessary step in complying with state regulations associated with distance education and physical presence.
