1.        Automatic Consent Item – Minutes of the November 18, 2010 meeting.  UAPC Doc 2010.12.16.01

2.        Information Item – Staff notes on today’s agenda items.  UAPC Doc 2010.12.16.02

3.        Approval – Departmental Reorganization in the School of Medicine and Public Health.  Presenters:  Robert Golden, Dean, School of Medicine and Public Health; Richard Moss, Senior Associate Dean, SMPH.  Also attending: Tom Yin (Interim Chair, Neuroscience), John Harting (Chair, Anatomy), Donata Oertel (Interim Chair, Physiology), Dan Greenspan (Interim Chair, Cell and Regenerative Biology).  This reorganization will result in the creation of two new departments and the discontinuation of two existing departments.  The proposals include detailed information about faculty and staff appointments in the new structure.  In addition, the proposals list how the existing academic programs and courses will be associated with the existing and new Course Subject Listings in the new structure.  The proposals have been revised to incorporate more information on teaching and on the governance process as requested as a follow-up to the November UAPC meeting.  A full list of actions is given below.   UAPC Doc 2010.12.16.03, UAPC Doc 2010.12.16.04

a.        Establish a new Department of Neuroscience

b.        Establish a new Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology

c.        Discontinue the Department of Physiology

d.        Discontinue the Department of Anatomy

e.        Establish a new Course Subject Listing, Neuroscience, to be associated with the Department of Neuroscience

f.          Establish a new Course Subject Listing, Cell and Regenerative Biology, to be associated with the Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology

g.        Move the home of the Course Subject Listing Anatomy to the Department of Neuroscience

h.        Move the home of the Course Subject Listing Physiology to the Department of Neuroscience

i.          Move the MS/PhD in Physiology to the Department of Neuroscience

j.          Move the MS in Biotechnology to the Department of Neuroscience

k.        Move the Cardiovascular Research Center to the Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology

4.        Approval – Entitlement to Plan an MS and PhD in Epidemiology, Department of Population Health Sciences, School of Medicine and Public Health.  Presenters:  Richard Moss, Senior Associate Dean; Marty Kanarek, professor of Population Health Sciences; Hal Skinner, professor of Population Health Sciences.  This proposal was approved at the November Graduate Faculty Executive Committee meeting.  After UAPC consideration, the proposal will be sent to UW System Administration to be circulated to the other UW institutions for comment.  A full proposal will be prepared by the program faculty and will undergo review by a committee chaired by a UAPC member.  UAPC Doc 2010.12.16.05.

5.        Automatic Consent – New Course Subject Listing, Neurological Surgery, Department of Neurological Surgery, School of Medicine and Public Health.   UAPC Doc 2010.12.16.06

6.        Automatic Consent – Extend the current capstone Certificate in Fundamentals of Clinical Research to students at the graduate level and in professional careers.  The certificate is hosted by the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, School of Medicine and Public Health.  If approved, the certificate program would be implemented in Spring 2011.  This proposal is scheduled for consideration at the December 10, 2010 Graduate Faculty Executive Committee meeting.   UAPC Doc 2010.12.16.07

7.        Automatic Consent – Implement a new capstone certificate, Actuarial Science, School of Business.  The proposal would be implemented for Fall 2011.  This proposal is scheduled for consideration at the December 10, 2010 Graduate Faculty Executive Committee meeting.   UAPC Doc 2010.12.16.08

8.        Automatic Consent – Suspend admissions to the MS in Actuarial Science, School of Business.  This proposal is scheduled for consideration at the December 10, 2010 Graduate Faculty Executive Committee meeting.  There would be no new admissions to the program starting in Fall 2011.  If approved by the UAPC, a review of the suspended admissions status will be required three years after admissions are suspended (2014-15).     UAPC Doc 2010.12.18.09

9.        Report – University Assessment Council Annual Report.  Presenter: Mo Noonan Bischof, Assistant Provost and Co-chair of the University Assessment Council.  UAPC Doc 2010.12.16.10
