1. Welcome, introductions, opening announcements.

CONSENT AGENDA

2. Automatic Consent – Minutes of the October 18, 2012 meeting. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.01

3. Automatic Consent – Discontinuation of the course Subject Listing, Family and Consumer Communications. The School of Human Ecology has decided to discontinue this Subject. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.02

4. Automatic Consent – Create a new Subject listing, ENGL, to house the majority of courses offered in the Department of English. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.03

5. Automatic Consent – Discontinue the Center for Neuroscience, School of Medicine and Public Health. In keeping with the UAPC policy on centers, discontinuations of centers come to the Council as automatic consent items. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.04, UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.05    (Doc 2012.12.20.05 is the 1997 center reorganization proposal and is not included in printed packets; it is available on the web site.)

6. Automatic Consent – Suspend admissions to the MS-Medical Microbiology and Immunology program. This action was approved at the November 9, 2012 Graduate Faculty Executive Committee (GFEC) meeting. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.06

7. Automatic Consent -  Change the academic and administrative home of the MS/PhD in Material Science and the Material Science Program from the Department of Material Science and Engineering to the College of Engineering Dean’s Office. This is an information item to correct a long standing error.  UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.07

8. Automatic Consent – For the MS-Manufacturing Systems Engineering, convert the associated Engineering Management specialization to a named option: Engineering Management Specialization. The specialization, which is an obsolete structure, will be discontinued. This action was an information item at the December 14 GFEC meeting. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.08

9. Automatic Consent – Discontinue the major Business:Accounting (code 004) associated with the Master of Business Administration degree. This action is conditional on approval at the December 14 GFEC meeting. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.09

10. Automatic Consent - Discontinue the major Business:Information Systems (code 571) associated with the Master of Business Administration degree. This action is conditional on approval at the December 14 GFEC meeting. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.09

11. Automatic Consent - Discontinue the named option, “Strategic Management in Life and Engineering Sciences” associated with the major Business:Management and Human Resources (code 623). This action is conditional on approval at the December 14 GFEC meeting. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.09

12. Automatic Consent - Suspend admissions to the named option, “Quantitative Finance” associated with the MS Business:Finance, Investment, and Banking (code 423). This action is conditional on approval at the December 14 GFEC meeting. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.10

13. Automatic Consent – Create a new named option, Global Higher Education, associated with the MS-Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. Approval is conditional on approval at the December 14, 2012 Graduate Faculty Executive Committee meeting. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.11

15. Automatic Consent – Discontinue the named option, Cooperative Program with UW-Oshkosh associated with the MS-Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. Approval is conditional on approval at the December 14, 2012 Graduate Faculty Executive Committee meeting. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.13

16. Approval Item – Creation of a new center, the Native American Center for Health Professions. Presenters: Professor Erik Brodt, Family Medicine; Professor Alex Adams, Family Medicine; Senior Associate Dean Richard Moss, School of Medicine and Public Health. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.14

17. Approval Item – Create of a new center, the Wisconsin Applied Computing Center. Presenters: Gerald Kulcinski, associate dean, College of Engineering; Dan Negrut, professor of Mechanical Engineering. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.15

18. Approval Item – Discontinuation of the BS-Agricultural Education major. Presenter: Sarah Pfatteicher, interim associate dean, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. This program suspended admissions in 2009 and is now advancing a proposal to discontinue the major. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.16

19. Approval Item – Merger of the Department of Comparative Literature and the Folklore Program into the Department of Comparative Literature and Folklore Studies. All of the academic programs and structures associated with the two units will migrate to the new merged department. Presenters: Gary Sandefur, dean of College of Letters & Science; Susan Zaeske, associate dean of Letters & Science; Mary Layoun, chair of Comparative Literature; Robert Glenn Howard, director of the Folklore Program. All of the academic programs and structures associated with the two units will migrate to the new merged department. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.17

20. Approval Item – BS-Pharmaceutical Sciences Notice of Intent and Authorization Proposal. Presenters: Charles Lauhon, associate dean, School of Pharmacy; Christine Sorkness, professor and BS program director, School of Pharmacy. The School of Pharmacy is proposing a BS-Pharmaceutical Science, which will serve as a milestone degree to UW-Madison undergraduates who subsequently enter the Pharm.D. prior to earning a bachelor’s degree. This is coming to you in the new format of Notice of Intent and the Authorization Proposal. UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.18UAPC Doc 2012.12.20.19
